The beauty, power, and joy of being calm in the moment
There is such beauty, power, and joy in the calm
This is a powerful lesson I am learning today
I spent some time this morning:
🙏praying and meditating
🎵 listening to music and singing from the heart
💭 reflecting and pondering
🔗 connecting with my Creator and getting centered
During this time, I realized that I am letting my emotions get the best of me too often. It manifests itself in ugly ways and especially with my kids. I don’t want to be that dad that is harsh, unforgiving and enraged. It’s not me.
Unfortunately, I let the frustrations and challenges bubble over. It’s in those moments that I need to focus on being calm. It’s not easy. I’m still a work in progress here. It helps to name that issue. Then I can take steps to work on it.
Finding my calm starts with my spiritual life. As I draw near to God, He gives me a peace that makes me a better man, husband, father, friend, and business leader.
Even if we don’t share the same faith, this concept of being calm is crucial. Anyone looking to grow their personal and professional lives sees the value of calm. It’s necessary as a leader, marketer, and entrepreneur.
We can’t make rational decisions for our teams and businesses in an emotional state. It takes recognition and intentional practice to step back. Leave anxiety, fear, and anger behind in that situation.
It’s important to ask a single, simple question:
If we can ask this question and courageously seek the answer
We can return to a state of tranquility. That’s the place I want to be. I want that for you too.
Here are some concepts to consider in the quest for more serenity:
Are you a thermometer or a thermostat?
One takes the temperature. The other sets the temperature.
Do you react or respond?
One is knee jerk and uncontrolled. The other is thoughtful and purposeful.
I’ve been helping leaders become better marketers for over 21 years and would love to help you take the next step in your spiritual leadership journey.
